Keeping cool in the hot weather

The Met Office has issued a Level 3 weather warning across the North East from Saturday 16 July, 9:00am – Tuesday 19 July, 9:00pm. Look out for others, especially older people, young children and babies and those with underlying health conditions. With temperatures rising in County Durham, please follow the guidance on staying safe:

  • the sun is strongest between 11.00am and 4.00pm
  • avoid energetic outdoor physical exercise on very hot days
  • wear loose-fitting, light-coloured clothing
  • wear a sun hat and sunglasses and stay in the shade if going outside
  • use sunscreen (at least factor 30) to protect your skin
  • drink plenty of water
