The John Marley Centre
JMC learners have started their voluntary work in The Scotswood Community Garden and we have been helping to clear the weeds from the pond/bird watching area.
We learnt a great deal about the plants that grow in the nature garden and in particular the negative impact weeds can have if you let them grow. After working hard all morning the learners were offered some delicious homemade soup made from the gardens produce, which they got to share with the other volunteers. We can’t wait to go back next Thursday and get stuck into our next project.
Thank you so much for having us Scotswood Nature Garden.
Disability North
This month Newcastle learners attended the My Future My Choice event at St. James’ Park. The learners had a fantastic afternoon stepping out of their comfort zones, engaging with different colleges and businesses and meeting old friends and new.
Thank you so much to everyone who organised the event or took part, the learners gained a real insight in what’s available in around Newcastle for now and their future after Learning for Life.
Consett
Part of our curriculum here at LFL is to prepare learners for independent living and adult life after LFL. Therefore we have been looking at emergency situations and the valuable services we can access depending on the situation we might be in. The learners in Consett have been writing some fantastic responses to some made up emergencies and we would like to share them with you.
