David Harrop

David was originally born in a small village, Marple in South Cheshire. Moving to Consett in 1989, David got married and also secured employment in the field of retail management.

When his son, Nathan, started at Villa Real School, David became involved in the school association, becoming the chairperson.

Having been a founder member of the Derwentside Positive Inclusion Group (DPIP) and The Derwent Summer Activities Programme, David was an active part of the original members of Real Care Ltd, which later became Learning for Life.

David states:

I feel that it’s very important that parents have a voice in their child’s future.
I am very proud of the work Learning for Life has done. You really don’t stop being a parent of a child with special needs, even when they become an adult. You just become a parent with an adult with special needs.
