At their most recent meeting – parents, carers and staff had the opportunity to view the plans for the new Learning for Life premises in Herbert Street, Consett. Although that was exciting enough, it’s hard to translate plans into walls, ceilings and floors, so a special visit was arranged to visit the premises. The Herbert Street building had started out as a school, so it is totally ‘fit for purpose’: being already equipped with large classrooms. When the building is refurbished it will possess a spacious communal area, a sensory room, a community/parent/carer room and specialist bathroom/changing areas. The external part of the building will include raised beds for vegetables and flowers, a sensory garden, greenhouse, barbecue area, outside learning space and workshops to develop employability skills (subject to funding). With this vision of the future in mind, everyone was suitably impressed at the new building and could see its obvious potential; so much so, the visitors were inspired to come up with their own creative ideas.

The next Parent/Carers Meeting hopes to see local MP, Laura Pidcock, amongst its throng, so please make sure you don’t miss out on the opportunity to come along to that. Please keep an eye on our Facebook page and website for further information.
With the contract for Herbert Street now signed and the work now underway, there will be opportunities in the
not-so-distant-future to visit the new Herbert Street site. Anyone interested should contact reception or telephone
